Skinny

Just by cutting out liquor and wine, some people can take off a dozen or so pounds in a few weeks. . . . Of course, these are people who drink quite a lot. Whatever diet you follow, you virtually can’t drink during the losing period—maybe one glass of wine or one highball a day. After you get to “sustaining,” you more or less have to choose between “gracious” amounts of liquor or food. Several skinnies I know do drink several highballs or glasses of wine a day, but they eat very little. It’s absolutely up to you. What few calories I’m allotted, I prefer in food, except in sexy moments.
(P.S. You know which is healthier.)

Travel Agent

Asking these questions is a quick way to find out whether travel agents know what they’re doing, according to Anita Alden, director of relationship management at the Institute of Certified Travel Agents. If you don’t like the answers, look for another agent. Comparison shopping at this stage can have big benefits.

  • Have you planned trips like mine before?
  • What kind of traveling have you done?
  • Have you ever been to the resorts you’re describing?
  • What’s your specialty?
  • Where do your clients typically travel?
  • What types of resources do you use to plan vacations?
  • Why do you prefer one tour operator over another?
  • Do you refer clients to other agents for cruises or other travel outside your specialty?
  • Are you reimbursed for booking with a particular airline or tour group rather than one with a better price?
